Well here it is, at long last I have finally updated
and revamped my personal website. It has been many
years since I even did small updates, and at least a
decade since I did any major work. But finally, the time
had come to update or move on to other platforms for
content management.
Being a technology geek, I was an early adopter of
buying my own domain and maintaining a personal
website. I bought this domain and web hosting
space back in the late 90's - long before Facebook or
Twitter, and even before early "social" sites like
Geocities or MySpace. I spent many hours creating
and maintaining this site - adding content, uploading
pictures, adding pages, and even downloading the site
traffic logs and analyzing what kind of hits and traffic
I was getting, and how many page views I was getting.
But over the years, I spent less and less time
maintaining this site. I reduced the number of
pages numerous times (at one point I had nearly 50
different pages here) and to help streamline the upkeep.
And then came the advent of social media like Facebook
in the early 2000's. Now it was quick and easy to
share information and pictures, and the need for a
personal website faded away.
So this site got stale. Like REALLY stale.
Like 10 years stale.
So why resurrect it now? Well, with my now-heavy
involvement in the AFOL (Adult Fans of LEGO) community,
and my wanting to share my work, I was faced with a
decision - start using a platform like Instagram or my
Google Photos account to share pictures and content, or
finally bite the bullet and update my website that I'm
shelling out money for. (I still need the domain
for other reasons, so dropping it was not an option).
And as you can see the "use the website I'm shelling
out money for" option won, and I'm not mad about it.
I cut down the number of pages to four, expanded my use
of a picture gallery script to manage the pictures, and
refreshed the overall design. These pages
themselves shouldn't need a lot of upkeep, and adding
new pictures is a cinch, so hopefully I'll keep up with
things.
So that's the story. I'm glad to have you here.
Welcome to my site and enjoy!
